The Godfather Sicilian Lasagna

A rich and flavorful Sicilian lasagna inspired by The Godfather.

Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions.
  3. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and sausage over medium heat.
  4. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese.
  7. In a baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce, followed by noodles, and then the cheese mixture. Repeat layers.
  8. Top with remaining mozzarella cheese.
  9. Bake for 45 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  10. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a layer of sautéed vegetables.
  • Make the lasagna a day in advance for enhanced taste.
