Spiderweb Cake: A Deliciously Spooky Treat Recipe

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chocolate frosting
  • 1 cup white frosting
  • 1 ½ cups candy spiders (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients; mix until well combined.
  5. Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, frost one cake layer with chocolate frosting.
  10. Place the second layer on top and frost the entire cake with white frosting.
  11. To create the spiderweb design, pipe chocolate frosting in a spiral on top and use a toothpick to create web lines.
  12. Decorate with candy spiders.

  • This cake can be made a day in advance.
