  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Combine the mashed bananas with the butter mixture and mix well.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  7. Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the banana mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
  8. Stir in the vanilla extract and salted caramel sauce.
  9. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  12. Frost with additional salted caramel sauce or your favorite frosting.

Notes

  • For an extra touch, sprinkle a bit of sea salt on top of the frosting.
  • This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
